VCI Packaging Selection

Friday, February 22, 2019

There are many variations of VCI packaging to use for your application. To choose the right type of VCI, the following questions should be answered:

  • Which metals need protection?

  • How long do you need to protect the material?

  • Are the parts being shipped domestically or internationally?

  • What are the climate conditions?

  • What is the size and weight of the product?

  • How are the parts currently being packaged? Is the handling automatic or manual?

  • Is there chemical or oil residue on the metal?

  • Where is the packaging station in relation to the other processes?

By answering these questions, the correct VCI formulation and type of packaging (paper, poly bags, emitters /or stretch film) can be selected for your specific application.

Typically, one square area of VCI paper or film will protect up to 3 square surface areas of metal. It is critical to work with a VCI supplier that understands how to protect metal parts. VCI packaging experts, like Murphy Packaging, can help determine which product or combination of products to use to prevent rust.
